Welcome to the family!
I am “Uncle Pat” your father’s uncle and his godfather. “Aunt Cathy” is my wife. Both of us are excited that you arrived safe and are in good health. Your parents were very concerned about your arrival and did everything possible to prepare a loving home for you.
The enclosed St. Benedict Crucifix is for you from me and Aunt Cathy. It contains the Medal of St. Benedict, the most blessed medal in the Catholic Church.
The medal is a prayer of exorcism against Satan, a prayer for strength in time of temptation, a prayer for a peaceful death in the Lord, a prayer for peace among ourselves and among nations of the world, a prayer that the Cross of Christ be your light and guide, a prayer of firm rejection of all that is evil, a prayer of petition that we may with Christian courage “walk in God’s
ways, with the Gospel as our guide,” as St. Benedict urges us.
Ask your parents to hang this Crucifix near your crib. Some day, when you are all grown-up and move away from home, please take it with you and hang it in your bedroom. This gift, at the beginning of your life, is yours until the end of your life in this world.
I know you have many questions. New babies, like you, are not given an instruction manual telling you how to live in this world. My advice is simply to love. Love God, love your neighbor, love your parents, love everyone.
Of all the billions of people on earth and all the billions of people who have died, God chose you to be born at this time and for your parents to be your parents; so take good care of them. Say hello to them for me and Aunt Cathy. Tell them they are in our prayers too.
Godparents have a special obligation and privilege to pray for their godchildren. I am sure your parents will choose a wonderful man and a wonderful woman to be your godparents.
I extend to you the United Hearts Blessing of Jesus and Mary and the anointing of St. Michael, so that you may always be protected from evil by St. Michael’s Shield of Truth.
Again, welcome home!
May God bless and protect you little one.
