Mission Statement

The Paulist National Catholic Evangelization Association (PNCEA) builds up the body of Christ by equipping Catholics to evangelize.

Equipping Parishes, preparing the laity.

• From 1979-1986, PNCEA sponsored Lay Celebrations of Evangelization, large gatherings (and teleconferences in 1987 and later). These events trained Catholics in evangelizing and in prayer for the spread of the gospel. Published portraits of successful evangelization programs and guidelines, a national magazine, training films, and the newsletter Evangelization Today, helped other parishes adopt the effective models.
• A national ministry to inactive Catholics, ANOTHER LOOK, through a series of five newsletters gently invited non-practicing Catholics to again explore their Cathloic faith. And in 1990, a major outreach to Americans with no church family was launched - The Catholic Way of Life. This 25-part introduction to the Catholic faith, designed to draw unchurched persons into dialogue with PNCEA and their local parish, was later published in a book. Following Jesus Day by Day, a series of six eight-week meditations on Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, began in 1994 and is distributed today through Prison Ministries. In 1995, PNCEA published a new method of reaching out to inactive Catholics and the unchurched, Yes, I Can Believe.
• Week-long training institutes from 1989-1999 introduced parish leaders to the methods, materials, and theology of Catholic evangelization.
• Disciples in Mission, a three-year, parish-wide experience of evangelization has since 1996, equipped 2 million Catholics in 34 dioceses and 2,000 parishes to share their faith with others.
• ENVISION, Planning Our Parish Future, is a Christ-centered pastoral planning process that engages all parishioners in developing and implementing a faith-based vision for their parish. It began in 2002.
• I am E3 - Evangelizing Everyday Everywhere, is a brand new parish resource that stimulates one-on-one faith sharing through conversation-starting faith stories on attractive, easy-to-use cards.

Helping Catholics Grow in faith. Nourishing Catholics who want to grow in their faith in Jesus Christ and share the treasures of their Catholicism with others are two more ministries.

• Share The Word magazine, one of the first Bible study resources for U.S. Catholics, began in 1980 to offer enlivening evangelization-based reflections on the Sunday Scripture readings and daily Mass readings. For a time accompanied by a TV show and video, it was redesigned in 1998. To parish faith-sharing groups and individuals today, the award winning publication and its online Sunday supplements are a resource on evangelization, spirituality, and Scripture for today's disciples.
• Parish Missions, a week-long experience in evangelizing spirituality, bring a mission team of a priest and a religious or laywoman to parishes. Since 1998, missions have brought renewed enthusiasm and commitment to live and proclaim the gospel to people in 142 parishes in 71 dioceses.

Special Communities. In 1995, the late Fr. Thomas Comber, CSP, founded PNCEA Prison Ministries to help prison chaplains and volunteers provide inmates with solid Catholic teaching. From serving 190 prisons that year, Prison Ministries has grown to sending newsletters answering inmates' questions, Bibles, Share The Word, adult faith education books, and prayer cards to over 1,500 prisons.

Consultation. PNCEA staff members also serve as consultants to dioceses and parishes as they seek to carry out the evangelizing mission of Christ.

New Resources. PNCEA is in the research and development phase of a new resource called Invite! that is scheduled for publication in 2005. Parishes can use this resource to invite those with no church family to explore the treasures of the Catholic faith.

You will find it interesting to learn that the Catholic faith is the largest Christian family in the United States (and the world), accounting for 25% of the U.S. population, and a growth rate of 11% in the past decade! So, you can see, the Catholic Church continues to be a vibrant and growing family…but we do truly miss our brothers and sisters in faith who have not been at Mass lately.

Our lives on earth should be a wholehearted search for God and His truth. For some, the search is easy and quick, for others it can be long and laborious. The purpose of Catholics Come Home is to make your search for the fullness of truth easier and more fruitful.

The old saying is so true: God loves you. He loves you so much that He sent his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross and rise again from the dead to redeem and save you from sin and alienation. And, as Christ Himself promised, I will not leave you orphans (John 14:18). He established a Church, the Catholic Church, with all its human imperfections as the shelter from the storms of this life.

God loves you so much that He will not stop searching for you, reaching out to you, and seeking you, so He can bring you safely home to a big, warm, and loving Catholic family. But God is gentle... the choice is yours.
